Phil Rosenthal has travelled the world in search of the best bites. Now, to usher in a new era of his show “Somebody Feed Phil,” the comedian and host will offer fans a look at something a little closer to home.
On July 27, Rosenthal will host a special episode giving viewers the inside scoop on Max and Helen’s, the Los Angeles diner that he launched with chef Nancy Silverton in November 2025. The Larchmont restaurant is named for Rosenthal’s parents and has earned raves — and inspired long lines — for its comfort food and warm atmosphere.
The episode will launch on YouTube, where Rosenthal recently moved his show from Netflix, where it has been for several seasons. The idea is for it to bridge the gap between now and the Season 9 premiere in early 2027.
The YouTube deal comes after Banijay signed a pact with Rosenthal’s Lucky Bastards production banner. As part of the agreement, new episodes will appear on a “Phil Rosenthal World” YouTube channel, featuring “short- and long-form original content.”
Rosenthal has switched platforms for his food travel series before. He first hosted the series “I’ll Have What Phil’s Having” on PBS in 2015, but left for Netflix after the public broadcaster ran out of funding for a second season. Retitled “Somebody Feed Phil,” the show ran for eight seasons on Netflix, from 2018 to 2025.
In a 2026 interview with Variety, Rosenthal described his no frills vision for Max and Helen’s.
“Our mission is simple. We want to elevate comfort food,” he said. “We want the best eggs, the best home fries, the best toast and a great cup of coffee. Lattes, cappuccinos? We’re not gonna have that. We’re gonna have the red pot and the blue pot. That’s it. If you want the fancy stuff, there’s seven places, including Starbucks, down the block where you can go.”
Here’s a look at a video teasing the Max and Helen’s episode.
