One person was taken to the hospital after a car caught fire in the basement carpark of a condominium in Yishun on Wednesday evening, July 29, prompting an emergency response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

SCDF said that it was informed about the fire at about 8:20 pm at 89 Yishun Street 81, which is the address of Orchid Park condominium.

The fire involved a car parked in the basement carpark and was brought under control by SCDF officers using two water jets.

One Person Suffers Smoke Inhalation

Following the incident, one person was taken to Singapore General Hospital after suffering smoke inhalation. However, the authorities have not released further details about the individual's condition.

SCDF added that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Community Praised for Swift Response

In a Facebook post shared on July 29, Lee Hui Ying, Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC, commended the quick response by emergency personnel and members of the community.

She said grassroots volunteers and the People's Association stepped in to assist residents affected by the incident.

Lee also expressed her appreciation to SCDF, the Singapore Police Force, including a full-time national serviceman, and a resident who came forward to help during the emergency.

"Good to see many neighbours looking out for one another," she wrote.

The authorities are continuing to investigate what caused the vehicle to catch fire. No additional injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
