South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun has reportedly been cleared of allegations of child sexual abuse involving late actress Kim Sae Ron after police concluded their investigation without referring the case for prosecution.
According to an exclusive report by Dispatch, the Seongdong Police Station recently decided not to pursue charges against the actor under the Child Welfare Act. Authorities also concluded their investigation into separate allegations of sexual exploitation of a minor, determining that no further action would be taken.
The report stated that investigators examined whether Kim Soo Hyun had been in a relationship with Kim Sae Ron while she was a minor and whether any sexual abuse had occurred. Following the investigation, police reportedly concluded that the allegations made by Kim Se Ui and Kim Sae Ron's family were false.
Audio Recording Played Key Role in AllegationsOne of the central pieces of evidence cited during the controversy was an audio recording released by Kim Se Ui. The recording allegedly captured a conversation between Kim Sae Ron and an acquaintance in New Jersey, with claims that it suggested Kim Soo Hyun had sexually exploited her while she was underage.
The conversation included the following exchange:
Acquaintance: But did you sleep with him after you became an adult?
Kim Sae Ron: Ha... the first time with [Kim Soo Hyun] was winter break of 8th grade.
Acquaintance: Wow, 8th grade?
Kim Sae Ron: Even that, when I think about it now, I guess you'd have to say I was taken advantage of.
The recording became one of the most widely discussed pieces of alleged evidence during the controversy.
Investigation Finds Audio Was AI-GeneratedAccording to the report, investigators determined that the audio recording had been manipulated using artificial intelligence.
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office's Scientific Investigation Division reportedly found evidence of digital alteration, identifying inconsistencies in the voice frequency ranges that indicated the recording had been generated or manipulated using AI technology.
Investigators also reportedly failed to verify the identity of the alleged acquaintance from New Jersey featured in the recording. As a result, authorities were unable to confirm whether the individual exists or whether the voice itself was also AI-generated.
With the investigation complete, the Seongdong Police Station has decided not to refer the case to prosecutors, effectively closing the allegations against Kim Soo Hyun related to alleged child sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of a minor.
The reported findings mark a significant development in a case that has drawn widespread public attention, with authorities concluding that no further legal action will be taken regarding the allegations.
