A U.S. Marine has been fondly remembered by her sister as a "selfless" woman after she was tragically decapitated when a speeding boat, allegedly driven by a man with a history of DUI arrests, crashed into her vessel. The victim has since been identified as Magdalena Jablonska, 48, a former U.S. Marine.

Richard Stevenson, 45, was arrested on Saturday after law enforcement said his 31-foot Southbay pontoon boat crashed into a 20-foot Crownline vessel while overtaking it on the Fox River in McHenry, about 59 miles northwest of Chicago, according to the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office. Jablonska was killed instantly, the McHenry County Coroner's Office told the Daily Mail.

Killed Instantly

Jablonska's sister, Michelle Macias, remembered her as a selfless public servant who dedicated her life to helping others and loved animals. Along with their two other siblings, Macias honored Jablonska's memory after their brother, Marcin, launched a GoFundMe campaign to benefit a local animal shelter.

Speaking to NBC Chicago, Macias said Jablonska joined the Marines "straight out of high school" and carried that same spirit of service throughout her life.

"She would go above and beyond for anyone, there was no one like her, the most selfless and kind person you would ever meet," Macias said. "She's never done anything for herself, always for everybody else."

Macias said Jablonska, who immigrated to Chicago from Poland as a child, "loved dogs and loved the shelters for the puppies."

"Magdalena was the sunshine in every place she went, and one of her favorite things to do was help dogs in need," Marcin wrote on the family's GoFundMe page.

Marcin also shared a heartfelt tribute to Jablonska on Facebook. "I miss and will always love you. I always thought we were going to grow old together like brother and sister should. You always helped everyone no matter the cost. I will pray for you every day," he wrote.

Tributes Pour In

Her other brother, Michal Macias, also posted a photo on Facebook of a memorial he created in her honor.

"I don't know who sent these flowers but thank you. They are beautiful. Also want to thank you who have checked in on me and my family," he wrote alongside flowers, photos of Jablonska, a prayer statue, and a candle.

He continued: "Please keep my family in your prayers light a candle for Magdalena Maria Jabłońska, I'll share funeral arrangements when we figure that out. I LOVE YOU my beautiful sister."

Macias added that the family hopes Stevenson—whom police described as a "ticking time bomb"—will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

"We're giving our hopes and faith that they will do right by her," she said.

Jablonska was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who lived in Des Plaines, about 40 minutes from the Fox River, according to her Facebook profile.

The fatal crash took place around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, roughly an hour and 45 minutes after a neighbor's security camera captured Richard Stevenson speeding back and forth on the Fox River, ABC 7 reported.

The footage showed Stevenson heading north before, less than a minute later, nearby residents heard the impact, according to the outlet.

Prosecutors said Stevenson entered a no-wake zone before his boat slammed into the rear of the green vessel at about 80 mph. The impact sent his boat over Jablonska, who was sitting in the passenger seat, decapitating her.

Jablonska was pronounced dead at the scene. As of Monday, some of her remains had still not been recovered, according to the Lake & McHenry County Scanner.

Her husband, whose name has not been released, was also aboard the boat. He was taken to a hospital, and his condition has not been disclosed.

A witness found Stevenson after his boat came to rest along a riverbank.

He was taken to a hospital, where prosecutors said his blood alcohol concentration measured 0.20—about 2.5 times the legal limit.

Prosecutors said two other people were on Stevenson's boat, but both left the scene before first responders arrived.

The two passengers were later interviewed by police and told investigators that Stevenson had allegedly taken multiple shots of Fireball whiskey before the crash.

Stevenson has been charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing death and one count of reckless homicide. Prosecutors said Stevenson also has three previous DUI-related charges, three prior reckless driving charges, and four misdemeanor speeding offenses on his record.
