The Mets had all but cemented their position as sellers when they arrived at the All-Star break in 2023.

A team expected to compete for the NL East title was failing miserably at 42-49, prompting a teardown by general manager Billy Eppler in the weeks that followed.

It’s a similar scenario to what the plummeting Mets are facing this season with a veteran-laden roster that could be dismantled by the Aug. 3 trade deadline.

Now it’s on president of baseball operations David Stearns to find value for ill-fitting pieces or players headed to free agency.
