One person killed when personal watercraft crashes into pontoon boat in NH

One person was killed when a personal watercraft collided with a pontoon boat in the Merrimack River in southern New Hampshire on Sunday.
New Hampshire State Police said Marine Patrol Officers and state police troopers responded to a report of a boat crash with serious injuries on the Merrimack River in Hudson near the Old Sagamore Bridge at 5:16 p.m. Sunday.
Preliminary investigation determined that the victim, identified as 31-year-old Erick H. Machado, of Nashua, was on a personal watercraft when it collided with the rear of a pontoon boat. Machado entered the water and was struck by the pontoon boat’s propeller, causing severe injuries to his legs.
The occupants of the pontoon boat immediately called 911 while bystanders who were on another personal watercraft assisted in bringing Machado aboard another boat. He was transported to shore, where first responders from the Hudson police and fire departments started emergency lifesaving efforts. But Machado succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At this time, the death is not believed to be suspicious, state police said. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
The Old Sagamore Bridge is located in the southern part of New Hampshire, spanning the Merrimack River between Nashua and Hudson.
