Customers of a popular farm shop in Lancashire have been told to remain vigilant after someone allegedly 'smeared dog faeces' on a car parked outside the store. Mathew Cockshott, who runs the Potato Man in Rossendale, took to social media to the raise the alarm earlier this week.

The shop is based in Park Mill, directly opposite Helmshore Textile Museum. Customers usually park on the main road on Holcombe Road where the incident occurred, LancsLive reports.

Matthew took to Facebook to alert customers about the vandalism, adding: "We want your shopping experience at the farm shop to be a positive experience and appreciate all your support and custom."

There are several restrictions on Holcombe Road close to Park Mill. These include two bus stops and a solid white line on the side of the road known as a H-bar.

A H-bar marking is an advisory white line typically painted across a dropped kerb to discourage drivers from blocking a driveway or entrance. It carries no direct legal enforcement on its own, but parking over a blocked dropped kerb is classed as an obstruction.

Matthew, whose dad Kevin still works in the fruit and veg trade in Burnley at the age of 83, said: "We just want to avoid any further issues so we're asking customers to think about where they park.

"The last thing we want is for people to be deterred from visiting us."

The Potato Man's large outlet includes a deli, butcher's and expansive fruit and veg offering. The store is open seven days a week; from 10am until 5pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am until 4pm on Sundays.

The farm shop boasts almost 10,000 followers on Facebook with customers regularly posting positive reviews.

One wrote: "Great experience when you go here, fresh fruit and vegetables. A butcher's and pie and cheese counter and lots of other hidden bits also stocked. Excellent effort by Matthew and his team, who all work hard especially Matthew’s daughter."

Another added: "The potato man is the place to be if you want fresh produce and if you want to try and explore new fruits and vegetables! Perfect place to be if your children are fruit mad."
