Renell C. Campbell, of Bridgeport, was arrested Saturday after he broke into multiple cars and a home on Wesley Street, Ansonia police said. 

ANSONIA — A Bridgeport man who broke into a Wesley Street home was arrested Saturday evening after officers found him hiding inside a closet, police said. 

Renell C. Campbell, of Bridgeport, was charged with four counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of sixth-degree larceny, according to Ansonia police Lt. Alex Barreira. 

Barreira said officers responded to the residential area around 9 p.m. following reports of an individual entering parked motor vehicles and a garage.

He said one of the responding officers spotted a person matching the suspect's description entering a nearby residence, leading police to surround and safely enter the home. 

Barreira said officers located the suspect, identified as Campbell, hiding inside one of the home’s closets near items believed to have been stolen from several of the vehicles. 
 
Campbell was released from custody after posting a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 7 in state Superior Court in Derby. 
 
Barreira said the department thanks the residents who immediately reported the suspicious activity and provided information that helped officers quickly locate and apprehend the suspect.
