The Telangana Excise Special Task Force (STF) seized 2,250 kg of jaggery and 250 kg of alum allegedly being transported for the manufacture of illicit liquor, officials said on Monday. The seizure was made by the Excise STF-B team led by Sub-Inspector Balaraju, who intercepted a van travelling from Hyderabad towards Devarakonda based on specific information.

During the inspection, officials found jaggery and alum worth an estimated ₹2.5 lakh concealed in the vehicle. Both materials are commonly used in the preparation of illicitly distilled liquor. The Excise Department registered a case against two persons and seized the vehicle used for transporting the consignment.

The accused were identified as Angothu Tarun and Patlavath Lal Krishna, both residents of the Devarakonda area. According to the officials, the duo has been involved in previous cases relating to the illegal transport of jaggery and has faced penalties in the past.

Excise officials said further investigation is underway to identify the intended recipients of the consignment and to ascertain whether it was linked to an organised network involved in the manufacture of illicit liquor.
