The Train Travellers Association (TTA) has submitted a representation to the South Central Railway (SCR) authorities seeking an extension of platforms at Neredmet Railway Station to accommodate 24-coach trains.

In a press release issued on Sunday, the association said longer platforms would enable mainline express trains operating from the Cherlapalli side towards Lingampalli to halt at Neredmet, providing a major convenience to thousands of passengers living in the surrounding areas.

TTA president Noor Ahmed Ali said the proposed Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Neredmet has gained momentum following the foundation stone laying ceremony conducted earlier this year by Malkajgiri MP Etela Rajender and Malkajgiri MLA Marri Rajasekhar Reddy.

As the RUB project is expected to start shortly, he urged railway authorities to make optimal use of the opportunity by utilizing the excavated earth and embankment material from both sides of the railway track for extending the platforms towards the Suchitra end.

The executing agency could be asked to stockpile the excavated earth at suitable locations instead of disposing it, so it can be effectively used for the proposed platform extension saving public money, reduce future project costs and accelerate the development of platforms.

Mr. Ali also highlighted the need to revise train timings to the recently inaugurated Komuravelli Railway Station to better serve devotees visiting the famous Mallanna Swamy Temple. He suggested that a train from Secunderabad should reach Komuravelli by around 6 a.m., as temple darshan timings are from 4.30 a.m. to noon and from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

At present, the train departing Secunderabad at 10.35 a.m. reaches Komuravelli at 12.30 p.m., while the evening service leaving at 5.50 p.m. arrives around 9 p.m. According to Mr. Ali, these timings leave devotees with little or no opportunity to visit the temple before returning.
