Glass family celebrates milestone as Jason, son Bodie team up to win Strathmore Stampede chuckwagon racing title

Jason Glass wins his fourth Strathmore title, this one with son Bodie as an outrider as five generations of the legendary chuckwagon racing family have now celebrated major victories.

Chuckwagon driver Jason Glass, piloting the Birchcliff Energy Ltd. outfit, captured his second consecutive and fourth Strathmore crown. And the 55-year-old star reinsman from High River, Alta., was helped by his 15-year-old son Bodie Glass, along with fellow outriders Tyler DeSutter and Trey MacGillivray.

Bodie, a rookie on the World Professional Chuckwagon Circuit, celebrated the first show championship victory of his young career.

The win adds another memorable chapter to one of the sport’s most storied families, with five generations of the Glass family now having recorded major victories.

The tradition was established by Jason’s great-grandfather, Tom Lauder, and continued by his grandfather, Ron Glass, and father, Tom Glass.

In a penalty-free championship heat, Jason Glass turned in a flawless run of 1:13.05. Cruise Bensmiller finished second, 0.69 seconds behind the champion, followed by Obrey Motowylo and Preston Faithful.

The final heat also produced the three fastest times of the afternoon. Glass claimed the Kirk’s Trail Tire Wheels on Fire Fast Time of the Night with his winning run  which also stood as the fastest time of the four-day race meet. Bensmiller and Motowylo recorded the second- and third-fastest times of the day.

The WPCA Pro Tour now has a quick one-day turnaround before heading north to Dawson Creek, B.C., for the Battle of the North, which runs Wednesday-Sunday.
