Happy Friday beautiful people! After three amazing months around the world (literally I flew all the way around the world) I am excited to be back in the States! My summer sabbatical was truly an experience of a lifetime and one that I will forever cherish, and I believe travel is so incredibly healing for the soul. If you ever get the opportunity to take a solo trip, even if just for a few days, do it! It’s such a special way to get reacquainted with yourself and to discover new things about what you are capable of in this lifetime. I’m truly full of gratitude for the opportunity I had to take this time for myself before my life rapidly changes. The countdown to moving to a new city with my fiancé begins. I couldn’t be more excited, and let’s be real a little nervous, about this next chapter I am entering. Gahhh, I’m just full of all the gushy, grateful, full of love, emotions, and can’t wait to see where life will take me.

Anyways, as soon as I landed, I of course had to pop over to Nordstrom to try some things on. As a certified Spanx lover, I hate to say it, but this top and matching pants set is better than Spanx! Buttery soft, so comfy and unlike the Spanx set I also tried, it has pockets! So so good. Also restocked on my holy grail serum, fyi it’s even cheaper than buying it duty free in the international airport. Oh and I’ve got a major crush on this necklace I saw S wearing!!! You can use the code XO-KAT-10 to save 10%. And even though wearing stripes always makes me feel like a character from Blues Clues, I am convinced I need this!

ONE: These linen pants are without a doubt my most worn pants of the summer. I love how lightweight and breathable they are and they look good with everything! Dressed up with kitten heels and a silk top, and even dressed down with sneaks and a graphic tee. I actually might grab another pair while they are on sale just in case.

TWO: After watching Netflix’s documentary The Plastic Detox, I really want to be more intentional about what I’m wearing and spent a lot of time looking at labels while I shopped the sale. Happy to report that this affordable sweater is soooo good that it came home with me and it’s 100% cotton (I’m wearing the size medium)! Oh and while the skirt isn’t on sale it is soooo good too and also available at Nordstrom right now (I’m wearing xl).

Hey, hey Friday. This morning as I was making my coffee I was pondering “how can we simplify life in this crazy modern age?” Yep, deep thoughts with Laura today lol. And ok some people are able to do that but typically seem like the type that can live away from the rest of society. That’s not me. But how can we simplify and still be a part of our regular lives…it’s all so much! Chicken Caesar salad wraps cost $18…my email inbox is never less, no matter how many things I unsubscribe from, the calendar is always full…and don’t even get me started about how it’s a full time job just trying to get enough water and protein in each day. I’m only partially joking here. 😅I know we all feel the pressure of it all and by ‘of it all’ I mean the injustice and atrocities, too, not just the privileged problems I listed trying to be funny. Phew. I didn’t mean for this to be so heavy on a Friday ack. And then to segue into shopping…I see the discord, don’t worry. Bleh. Ok, imma go touch some grass, y’all. xo

Jeans are tough these days but I WANT these…they look so easy. And there’s a gorgeous raincoat I missed in the Nordstrom sale that’s just $119. Ooh and there’s a shade of my favorite ever moisturizing lipstick on sale at Kohl’s for half off. It’s truly so good. I’ve bought it at least 4x now.

ONE: This Athleta Jetset bomber is one I think about a lot. It’s one of those really cool pieces I wish I owned and now’s the time. It’s 20% off plus an extra 10% at checkout. Super cute, in a few different colors and the perfect weight. This is the Small here, but it fits pretty true to size ( could have gone with my regular Medium for a little more room.

My BFFs from high school are coming to town to see Greenlea in Newsies! It’s the show’s final run, and I’ve had SUCH a blast watching her. (I may have gone five times already…aaaand I’ll be there two more.) Proud mama! ❤️I’m still in my cast, one friend just had knee surgery and is on crutches, so we’re proving that girls’ weekends look a little different in your 40s. 😂

Just got back home from a week on Lake Michigan celebrating my dad’s birthday with the fam. It was such a great week: memories were made, beaches were walked, good food was consumed, many card games were played…now sadly, it’s time to get back to real life.

As for sales, take 30% off your purchase at Banana Republic and I snapped up these super cool High-Rise Straight-Leg Fisherman Pants in olive green. I just put in my last Anniversary Sale order for the year (maybe, but probably not knowing me) because how am I JUST now seeing this stunning semisheer skirt?? I ordered it in both black and cream. I feel like it will be such a great transitional piece to pair with cute knee high boots and a cable knit sweater come fall.

TWO: Another big win from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year is this super fun Free People Skirt. It’s hard to get in photos just how boho and flowy this skirt is, with it’s tiered ruffles and voluminous skirt. So. much. fun. And the colors are perfect to transition into fall with some cute moto boots instead of strappy sandals. It’s still fully stocked in all sizes and also comes in a mauve colorway option as well.

Em’s Top Sales Picks

We’re mountain bound at the moment, and this is the one time we get to be up there this summer for a longer stretch, so my Pinterest board is full of DIYs I’m hoping to (but realistically will probably not) get to. If nothing else, the girls have a little Harry Potter-esque closet off of their room that I’d love to make the cutest reading nook-slash-sleepover hideaway ever, and the footprint is just small enough that I might be able to pull it off.

Sales this week – still riding the high of the NSale (couple of faves, below), but I love this in-between season, too, when there’s so much fun stuff to be found all over the place. Abercrombie has $50 off $150 – perfect time to stock up on basics or a couple of cute pieces for fall – this sweater is such a staple. These docs at Nordstrom Rack, hello so cute, and down to $65. And this dress is so nostalgic. Love the color and the cut.

ONE: Still a couple of really stunning (budget-friendly) finds in stock in the NSale, including this zip-up cardigan which is so refreshingly different from anything I own and yet easy as heck to wear. It kinda gives varsity jacket vibes, but it’s less imposing. And zipped all the way up a la turtleneck it’s totally chic. Wearing a small here.

TWO: Still stocked (restocked, actually…?) in three colors! These flats are so chic, they look great with all hem lengths, and they’re super comfy right outta the box in a buttery suede. And for $59, they feel like a great deal and offer the same look as other flats that are $100s more in the sale.
