There’s much to love about the ’90s, whether you grew up during the decade or have learned all about things like virtual pets and cassette Walkmans after the fact. But the decade wasn’t all cargo pants and oversized flannel shirts — it was also a simpler, more innocent time. In fact, one SheKnows contributor has spent the past few months recreating a ’90s summer for her kids and has had a ball doing it, from disposable camera photography to evening neighborhood bike rides.

Now, one mother is going viral on TikTok for sharing why it’s time to start “raising babies like the 90s.” Nashville mom Phoebe Lemcke (@phoebelemcke) has received more than two million watches on her post, which she captioned “Raising our babies like it’s the 90s again is in.”

But just what does that entail? “It’s incredibly chic,” Lemcke explains in the clip. “It’s in. No wake windows, no sleep training, eat whenever they want, take them with you wherever you go because baby revolves around your schedule, you don’t revolve around baby’s schedule.”

“No crying it out, classic TV shows, no baby books of a million other people telling you how to raise your kid,” she continues. “There’s a thing called motherly intuition. We use it. We take care of our baby the way that we know is best.”

Sounds pretty great to us, but what else is on Lemcke’s ’90s baby-raising list? “Pacifiers on deck, sleeping in cozy things, no sterile sleeping environment,” she says. “Pack that baby up and go get a margarita. Norah Jones on in the house, a glass of sauvignon blanc, outside all day with the baby, baby’s barefoot.”

“Share the love of your baby with your trusted ones,” she adds, “your loved ones, your friends. Pass your baby around with them. Let them love on your baby. Less anxiety, less worrying about everything. People have been taking care of babies for thousands of years. They’re gonna be fine. You’re an attentive mom. Don’t second guess yourself. As long as the baby has a bottle and their mom? They’re gonna be happy.”

Lemcke’s method seems like the perfect way to slow down, enjoy more of our baby’s infant years, and stop fretting over every single parenting decision. After all, she’s right, moms have great intuition and know what’s best for their own babies.

The TikTok mom’s followers agree with her plan, too. “Heavy on take your kids everywhere,” said one. “This is the French way to do it and it’s superior,” said another.

“You have forgotten ‘leave the kids outside from dawn til dusk and if they get thirsty, there’s a hose out back,’” said one mom. “Or is that too niche?”

Another dropped by to say how much Lemcke’s words meant to her as a mom who’s just finding her way in her parenting journey. “First-time mom,” she wrote, “and I’m glad I arrived here.”

We love seeing parents find community and hear that they’re not alone, so whether you agree with Lemcke’s ’90s parenting philosophy or not, you’ve gotta be glad her words are resonating with so many mothers. After all, motherhood is a tough job, and sometimes you just need to open your TikTok app and feel a little bit of support!
