NORWALK — West Avenue was reopened to traffic Wednesday afternoon after crews responded to a broken underground gas line, police said. 

The road was closed around 3:20 p.m. in the area of Butler Street and reopened around 4:30 p.m., according to social media posts shared by the Norwalk Police Department. 

Initially, police urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Officials did not indicate what caused the line to break or if the damage has been repaired. 

“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as crews work to safely resolve the situation,” police said. “Updates will be provided as they become available.”
