NORWALK — Police say they seized a firearm and drugs from a felon on Thursday. 

The Norwalk Police Department’s Special Services Division, with assistance from members of the Tactical Response Team, found the items while executing search warrants in connection with a narcotics investigation. As a result, Jesmar Velazquez, 37, of Norwalk, was arrested on gun and drug charges, Norwalk police Lt. Ramon Tejada said.

Police obtained search warrants to search Velazquez as well as his home and vehicle. Tejada said Velazquez also had three active arrest warrants, and he was taken into custody at the state Superior Court in Stamford when he was appearing for an unrelated matter. 

Following his arrest, police executed the search warrants, seizing one firearm, a pellet gun that resembled a firearm, 4.54 grams of crack cocaine, 10.1 grams of powdered cocaine, cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales, drug packaging materials and additional items commonly associated with the distribution of illegal narcotics, Tejada said. 

Velazquez was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell, operating a drug factory, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of a firearm, according to Tejada. His bond was initially set at $500,000. 

The active arrest warrants also charged Velazquez with three counts of the sale and possession of a controlled substance, and carried bonds totaling $525,000, Tejada said. 

Tejada said Velazquez is scheduled to next appear in court on July 9.
