A man was found shot to death Wednesday in the backyard of a home in the east Las Vegas Valley, according to police.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department received a ShotSpotter alert and a 911 call around 4:30 a.m. and responded to a house in the 4500 block of East Ogden Avenue, near Charleston and Lamb boulevards, according to Lt Robert Price.

Officers found a man in his 30s or 40s with gunshot wounds, Price said during a late morning news conference. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police.

Price also said that, as officers arrived, about seven people were trying to leave the house and were detained for questioning.

Asked about the relationship between those in custody and the victim, the lieutenant said he was unaware and that detectives were still in the early stages of their investigation.

“At this point, we were sitting down and talking to them, trying to figure out what’s going on,” Price said.
