Whether you're after a beach day, a scenic coastal walk or a chance to step back thousands of years in history, this Anglesey location has it all

If you're looking for a day out that combines a beautiful beach, stunning scenery and some fascinating history, then this day out on Anglesey should be high on your list this summer.

Porth Trecastell, located between Rhosneigr and Aberffraw, offers much more than just a picturesque stretch of coastline. From crystal-clear waters and a scenic walking route to one of Wales' most remarkable prehistoric monuments, it has all the ingredients for a memorable day out.

The beach itself is a stunning spot to spend a few hours. With golden sand and clear waters, it's an ideal place to relax in the sunshine, enjoy a swim in the sea or simply take in the views. There is also a coffee hut in the car park, making it easy to grab a drink or snack before setting off to explore.

For those wanting to stretch their legs, a public footpath on the right-hand side of the beach follows the coastline and rewards walkers with spectacular views across the bay.

As you continue along the path, signs invite visitors to "take a short stroll along the coastal path and you will discover a mysterious prehistoric tomb on a cliff top looking out across the Irish Sea".

That tomb is Barclodiad y Gawres, one of Britain's most important Neolithic burial chambers. Perched on the clifftop, visitors can step inside the ancient monument and discover a remarkable display of prehistoric art.

Inside the burial chamber are decorated stones featuring what has been described as an "ancient display of European art". Strange abstract patterns of zig-zags and spirals cover the surfaces of the large stones, with experts noting that "the artists who created them clearly knew the rock art in the tombs of the Boyne Valley in Ireland".

Information boards around the site explain the history of the monument, allowing visitors to learn more about the people who built the chamber more than 5,000 years ago and the significance of the intricate carvings that remain today.

After exploring the historic site, the nearby village of Rhosneigr is just a short drive away. The popular seaside destination offers a variety of cafés, restaurants and places to enjoy lunch or a coffee. Visitors can even unwind in a beachside sauna for the perfect end to a day by the coast.

Whether you're hoping to relax on the beach, enjoy a scenic coastal walk or uncover one of Anglesey's most fascinating ancient landmarks, Porth Trecastell offers a day out with something for everyone.
