Nicki Minaj is facing a backlash from woke fans after accepting a role aiding the Trump administration's efforts to highlight the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria

The rapper is expected to speak alongside Mike Waltz, the US's ambassador to the United Nations, about the issue at a UN event on Tuesday at 1.30pm. The surprising tie-up is understood to have been arranged by Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz.

Earlier this month President Trump threatened Nigeria after accusing the country's government of 'allowing the killing of Christians'. Human rights campaigners say Islamist militants are systematically targeting Christians and claim the jihadi group Boko Haram has killed more than 100,000 people since 2009.

The figures are difficult to independently verify and the Nigerian government has called those claims 'a gross misrepresentation of reality'.

Ahead of the event Waltz wrote on X: '[Nicki Minaj] is not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.

'I'm grateful she's leveraging her massive platform to spotlight the atrocities against Christians in Nigeria, and I look forward to standing with her as we discuss the steps the President and his administration are taking to end the persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters.'

The Anaconda rapper responded: 'Ambassador, I am so grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude. I do not take it for granted. It means more than you know.

'The Barbz [a nickname for her fans] and I will never stand down in the face of injustice. We’ve been given our influence by God. There must be a bigger purpose.

Nicki Minaj has accepted a role aiding the Trump administration in advocating against the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria

President Donald Trump has been outspoken against Nigeria and the violence against Christians since his first term and has said the country is now 'disgraced'

Though she appeared to speak for all of her fans the collaboration has elicited mixed response. A fan account reacted with a GIF of Minaj herself shaking her head and commented: 'Oh lord more MAGA tweets.'

One commenter said: 'Influence from God? Come on. This isn’t a divine mission, it’s PR cosplay. The ‘Barbz vs injustice’ act is getting tired power doesn’t equal purpose, and fan armies aren’t a moral compass.'

One critic chimed in: 'It’s laughable that Nicki Minaj that has zero knowledge on Nigerian political crisis and doesn’t understand Nigerian religious diversity will be speak on issue base of baseless propaganda and written scripts handed over to her by white people,' they wrote.

'If there’s anyone that deserves to speak on UN conference on Nigerian issues are Nigerians not a dumb b*** who knows nothing than dancing and shaking her a**.'

Another said that 'blindly' adding the 'barbz' to 'your ideological thinking is diabolical.'

However, her post was mostly flooded with many more supporters for the announced alliance.

'Nicki Minaj is your typical based, bad**s Queens girl,' another said.

'Thank you for using your platform and speaking out about the killings of the Christians in Nigeria, you are the only person I have seen speak up about this thank you!! you make us proud Nicki,' one commenter wrote.

Minaj previously spoke out over the violence against Christians in Nigeria, and praised the president for his advocacy on their persecution.

Daniel Bwala, a special adviser to the Nigerian president, has acknowledged that many Nigerians feel that the government has not acted in a way that secures their safety

'No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion,' Minaj wrote on X in November.

'We don't have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other. Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror and it's dangerous to pretend we don't notice.'

Texas Senator Ted Cruz wrote on X in October that 'since 2009, over 50,000 Christians in Nigeria have been massacred, and over 18,000 churches and 2,000 Christian schools have been destroyed.'

Cruz told the BBC that Nigerian officials had been 'ignoring and even facilitating the mass murder of Christians by Islamist jihadists.'

The Nigerian government, however, has insisted that it is working to stop the violence.

Daniel Bwala, a special adviser to the Nigerian President told PBS: 'As a responsible government, we refuse to approach the fight against terrorism from a profiling point of view. That's why we discourage the idea that it is a target — targeted Christian — it's a hoax. It's a hoax.'

Bwala acknowledged that many Nigerians, Christians and Muslims feel that the government has not acted in a way that secures their safety.

He said the government is limited in ammunition and resources, but added: 'Our relationship with America will help strengthen this fight.'

Bwala previously said Nigeria is a partner nation to the US 'not a hostile one,' but added the 'Christian genocide' narrative is a 'misrepresentation of our complex security reality, which affects citizens of all faiths.'

'We remain committed to solving our challenges through lawful, peaceful and collaborative means, not external interference,' he said, according to a report by Newsweek

The Daily Mail has reached out to the White House, Nicki Minaj and the Nigerian government for comment.
