Providing Universal and Continuous Support for Identified and Unidentified Vulnerable Children in Preschool Settings

Дата публикации: 15-07-2026 00:00:00

Early childhood education offers meaningful settings for promoting resilience and positive development, especially among children facing early life adversities. Vulnerable situations put children at risk for physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. Early childhood educators are primary sources of support for vulnerable children, as much of children’s awake hours are spent at preschools. However, some families may not disclose their vulnerable situations or some of their situations may not make them eligible for formal support. Nonetheless, early childhood education can use approaches that provide universal support to children regardless of whether they are or are not in vulnerable situations and whether those situations are known and identified or unknown and unidentified. We provide four main areas of universal support that are undemanding and simple to implement into daily classroom routines that will benefit children with identified and unidentified vulnerabilities.
