A popular cycling and walking route in Gwynedd has reopened after several months of closure.

Lôn Eifion runs 12.5miles between Caernarfon and Bryncir. Regularly used by cyclists and walkers, it offers stunning views of the Nantlle ridge and distant glimpses of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).

It was damaged last December during Storm Bran.

Securing funds and undertaking the major project has taken a number of months but work has been completed and the route recently reopened.

A Cyngor Gwynedd spokesperson said: "We are pleased to confirm that the Lôn Eifion route between the Inigo Jones roundabout in the Groeslon area and Penygroes, has reopened following repair work.

"Following significant damage caused by severe weather, funding was required for the unplanned works, which included repairs to an embankment which had been badly damaged.

"Now that the work has been completed, this popular route, which offers active travel options for everyday journeys and leisure, has reopened."

Craig ab Iago, Environment cabinet minister, said: "A great deal of hard work has gone into restoring this route.

"It's very important part of Cyngor Gwynedd's active travel plan and with the challenges we are facing due to climate change it gives us the option to walk or cycle instead of driving the car."
