As expected, defenseman Rasmus Andersson has signed a long-term deal with the Vegas Golden Knights.  The team announced that they’ve re-signed him to a seven-year, $59.5MM ($8.5MM AAV) contract.

Vegas acquired Andersson in a January deal that sent defensemen Zach Whitecloud and Abram Wiebe, a 2027 first-round pick, and a 2028 second-round pick back to the Calgary Flames. The Golden Knights quickly slotted Andersson into a top-four role, where he racked up 17 points in 33 games to close out the season. His production dipped in the postseason, where he managed just six assists in 22 games. Andersson did stand out in shot blocks. He ranked third on the team in blocks-per-game (5.02) through the end of the regular season, then totaled the fourth-most blocks (37) during the postseason.

Andersson’s 2025-26 campaign concluded with 17 goals and 47 points scored between Calgary and Vegas. That is the most scoring he has managed since the 2022-23 season, when he followed a 50-point year with 49 points in 79 games. Andersson hasn’t surpassed the 50-point mark through his 10 years in the NHL, though he has managed double-digit goal scoring in three of the last four seasons.

A long-term deal will solidify Andersson’s puck-moving role on the Vegas blue line now without Alex Pietrangelo. Andersson will be a strong bet to continue playing at least 22 minutes a night as the Golden Knights’ top, and only, right-shot defenseman.
