BELGRADE, August 7. /TASS/. One hundred Serbian public activists have signed an open letter of protest against Vladimir Zelensky’s visit to Belgrade.

"We, the undersigned, protest against inviting Vladimir Zelensky to pay an official visit to Serbia. Aside from the fact that his term as president expired more than two years ago, we consider Zelensky, as a supporter of NATO and the European Union, to be the main culprit behind the tragic war between Russia and Ukraine," says the letter, as quoted by the Pravda portal.

According to the document, inviting Zelensky, who is responsible for the persecution of Ukraine’s Russian-speaking population and the Orthodox Church, to Belgrade creates "a real threat of breaking centuries-long brotherly relations with the Russian people and the Russian state forever."

"The Serbian president’s [Alexander Vucic] decision to invite the Kiev regime chief to Belgrade is fraught with immeasurable damage to the country, as it could permanently damage relations with a state that is a steadfast defender of Serbia’s territorial integrity in the UN Security Council," the letter underscores.

Zelensky arrived in Belgrade on Friday. He was welcomed at the airport by Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic. He is expected to meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Saturday.
