Meal kit brand Gousto is closing a warehouse, putting 290 jobs at risk.

The company said it needs to operate more efficiently in a competitive food market and to keep prices low.

Closing its Clay Lake site in Lincolnshire means all production would take place at its site in Warrington, Cheshire, where boxes are prepared and dispatched.

Gousto makes and delivers subscription food for people to cook at home, rivalling brands like Hello Fresh and Mindful Chef.

It said it has invested heavily in Warrington and adopted advanced technology to offer the biggest choice of recipes and increasing personalisation of customer orders.

The site produces the vast majority of orders and has about 600 staff. Gousto said having two warehouses was no longer efficient and led to duplication.
