From a workshop in Cape Town, Cape Advanced Vehicles returns to one of motorsport’s most recognizable shapes with the GT MkII, a car that sits low, wide, and familiar at first glance. It carries the long roofline, deep-set cabin, and muscular rear haunches associated with the Ford GT40, then moves into a far more current language with a body built around carbon fiber composite.

The South African manufacturer has spent nearly three decades producing GT40 recreations, building more than 220 examples before turning toward this new model. Timed with the 60th anniversary of Ford’s 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans in 1966, the GT MkII shifts the company from replica work into a limited-run restomod supercar, with only forty examples planned across the world.

Beneath the familiar silhouette, this GT MkII is driven by a twin-supercharged 4.2-liter V8 with a claimed output of 800 hp at 7,800 rpm and 649 lb-ft of torque. The team at CAV pairs the engine with all-wheel drive and offers three transmission choices, including a six-speed single-clutch semi-automatic as standard, with a dual-clutch gearbox or three-pedal manual available as options.

The figures place the restomod firmly in modern supercar territory. CAV quotes a 0 to 62 mph time of 3.0 seconds, a top speed above 204 mph, and a 9,000 rpm redline, while the car’s carbon fiber composite body and aluminum-carbon structure help keep weight to 2,976 pounds. The powertrain also uses forged internals, direct injection, dry-sump lubrication, a carbon fiber intake manifold, and an active-valved Inconel exhaust.

Across the exterior, the GT MkII keeps the emotional pull of the original endurance racer through proportion more than imitation. The nose sits broad and low, the fenders carry more volume, and the headlights cut into the front end with a sharper expression than the 1960s car. Swan-wing doors improve entry into the cabin, a practical update for a form known for its dramatic roofline and famously low stance.

Chassis details remain partly undisclosed, though CAV identifies the structure as aluminum and carbon fiber, while several automotive outlets have pointed to visual clues suggesting Audi R8 influence under the skin. The car also adds KW Variant 4 three-way adjustable dampers, Brembo brakes with eight-piston front calipers, six steering-wheel drive modes, active aerodynamics, ABS, stability control, traction control, and airbags.
