iOS 26.7 lands alongside iOS 27, patching dozens of security flaws for iPhone owners who aren’t ready to upgrade yet.

Not ready for iOS 27? there's iOS 26.7. Apple is now rolling out iOS 26.7. It’s a cautious option for iPhone users who aren’t ready to jump into iOS 27 just yet.
Apple ships these companion updates every fall alongside its new, big annual release. This year follows the same pattern. iOS 26.7 exists purely to patch security holes for users who want to sit out iOS 27 for now.
iOS 26.7 patches dozens of security holesiOS 27 is the big deal right now, but Apple understands that many iPhone users aren’t ready for that jump — there are always concerns about bugs in the initial version. But Cupertino doesn’t abandon the cautious. iOS 26.7 is here to fix security problems with the 2025 version of the iPhone operating system — many found with AI — without any new features.
Apple’s one-sentence description of the new version makes it clear this is a patch, not a real upgrade: “This update provides security fixes for your iPhone.” There’s also an iPadOS equivalent with a nearly identical description.
Apple’s own security notes for iOS 26.7 list 82 separate patches. The kernel takes the biggest hit, with Apple rolling out more than a dozen patches targeting memory corruption bugs. Left unpatched, those bugs could allow a rogue app to crash your iPhone or peek at data it shouldn’t touch.
WebKit gets patched as well. Two different use-after-free bugs sat in Safari’s rendering engine. A malicious webpage, in theory, could have used either one to corrupt memory or crash your browser.
Bluetooth also gets a fix, where a flaw could allow a remote attacker to run code on your device without even touching it.
Other fixes cover ImageIO, CoreMedia, Photos and Reminders. The Photos and Reminders bug could have let apps sneak access to data they were never meant to see.
One detail stands out here. Three of these patched bugs credit researchers who worked alongside Anthropic’s Claude model. It looks like AI-assisted bug hunting is becoming a part of Apple’s security process now.
When to choose iOS 26.7 over iOS 27Apple gives iPhone owners two choices. You can either make the leap straight to iOS 27, or you can hang back on the current version and still get security patches. iOS 26.7 is that second option.
The iOS 26 security update carries no new features and lands alongside iOS 27. While Apple will eventually make iOS 27 the default update in Settings, that switch won’t happen for a few weeks.
Who should install iOS 26.7iOS 26.7 supports iPhone 11 or later. That’s the same lineup that runs iOS 27. So compatibility isn’t the deciding factor; comfort with a brand-new operating system is.
Want iOS 27’s early bugs ironed out before you dive in? iOS 26.7 keeps your iPhone protected in the meantime. Everyone else can go ahead and grab iOS 27 today.
Either way, don’t skip your software updates. Security patches exist for a reason, and installing them takes just a few minutes in Settings.
Update nowiOS 26.7 is available now. To install it directly onto your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update. The same holds true for iPad users.
