Making Strides Against Breast Cancer adds 5K to San Diego event

The American Cancer Society is adding a new 5K to its Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in San Diego this year, giving participants another way to support breast cancer research and patient programs.
The event also aims to raise awareness about breast cancer screenings, prevention and resources available to patients and their families.

Sunday, October 18, 2026
at SDSU Mission Valley River Park and Snapdragon Stadium
Day of event schedule:
6:00 a.m.: 5K Run Packet Pick-Up
7:00 a.m.: 5K Run Begins
8:00 a.m: Walk Begins
12:00 p.m.: Event Concludes
Attire: activewear and pink
Free parking included

“We are focused on growing the impact of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer with the new 5K run on October 18, where every step and every donation helps continue the research and patient support programs needed to end breast cancer as we know it,” says Chelsy Clark, Senior Executive Director of the American Cancer Society in San Diego.
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, excluding skin cancers. More than 4 million breast cancer survivors live in the U.S., and about 1 in 8 women will face a breast cancer diagnosis during their lifetime.
In 2026, an estimated 321,910 new cases of this type of cancer are expected in women and 2,670 in men, including 34,170 cases in California.
Funds raised through Making Strides support cancer research and programs for people affected by breast cancer, including Road To Recovery, which provides free transportation to cancer-related medical appointments.
