MS NOW hosts essentially asked Hasan Piker to stop being Hasan Piker for five minutes.

He declined.

On Clock It, Symone Sanders-Townsend and Eugene Daniels pressed the communist streamer on a problem now following him into Democratic politics: if he says he wants to help candidates win, why keep making statements he knows Republicans will use against them?

Piker’s answer: “Because if it’s not me, it’s something else regardless.”

Daniels wasn’t convinced.

That exchange came with some very recent baggage.

Piker’s 2019 declaration that “America deserved 9/11” has followed him for years. He later called the wording inappropriate and said he should have been more precise, while still arguing that the attacks should be understood partly as foreign-policy “blowback.”

This week, he gave Republicans another clip.

Asked by Axios whether America had committed more terrorism than al-Qaeda, Piker answered.

“Pound for pound, as far as the number of deaths, yes.”

“We have caused tremendous terror all around the world.”

That is exactly the kind of thing Sanders-Townsend was warning about.

The former Biden campaign adviser told Piker that if she were running a campaign, she would tell candidates to distance themselves from him.

“We wanna win!” she said.

Piker disagreed.

Sanders-Townsend answered with the sharpest line of the interview: “I’ve elected people, though. You’ve never elected anybody.”

Piker conceded the factual point, but not the larger argument.

He said Democratic attempts to distance themselves from him are often “insincere” and argued that Republicans will attack Democrats as socialists or extremists regardless of what he says.

That may be his theory.

The hosts were talking about a different problem: candidates still have to survive the clips.

Piker appears comfortable making them.
