Costco fans across America are getting 14 new reasons to celebrate this year as the cult-favorite warehouse store expands across the country. The retail giant is preparing to open 14 new locations in the US and Canada before the end of 2026, giving all of us even more chances to stock up on its famously oversized bargains. Five of the new warehouses are scheduled to open in October, with another nine following in November. The October openings will bring Costco to Lee's Summit in Missouri, The Colony in Texas, Amherst in New York, Lawrence in Kansas and Camarillo in California. In November, another wave of warehouses are planned for South Meridian in Idaho, Vallejo in California, Chandler in Arizona, Newport News in Virginia and Franklin in Wisconsin. Canada will also get four new locations, with warehouses intended for Northeast Edmonton and Lloydminster in Alberta, plus East Windsor and Wasaga Beach in Ontario. In some cases, the retailer is just moving into larger buildings nearby. In Newport News, Virginia, the Costco is replacing a warehouse that existed in the city since 1988.

The retailer acquired a 32-acre property a few blocks from its existing store and plans to build a massive 163,000-square-foot warehouse with a fuel station. Costco's expansion doesn't end there - plans are also being explored for communities across California, South Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Massachusetts, Maryland, Arizona and Illinois. The latest openings are part of an even bigger growth strategy laid out by CEO Ron Vachris earlier this year. Vachris said Costco intends to open 30 or more warehouses every year for the next five to ten years, with roughly half of those expected to be in the US and the rest spread internationally. Potential international growth markets include Canada, Mexico, Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

And as the cost of everyday goods continues to climb nationwide, many shoppers have turned to Costco's deeply discounted bulk products, and also resorted to filling up their gas tanks at the retail warehouse. Costco currently operates an estimated 920 locations in the US, plus one standalone gas station. Earlier this year, the retail giant opened its first fuel-only location in Mission Viejo, California. It marked a major evolution for the chain, which had previously only operated gas stations alongside its warehouse stores. The company's lone gas station without a warehouse store replaced a now-shuttered Bed Bath & Beyond. It's a member-exclusive store, requiring a Costco membership card to get a fill-up. The chain's 747 gas stations make up a big part of Costco's annual sales.

In 2025, they brought in 10 percent of the company's total revenue. In June 2025, Costco announced it would expand gas station hours nationwide, serving customers from 6am until 10pm on weekdays. On Saturday and Sunday, gas stations open at 6am and close at 8:30pm and 7:30pm, respectively. Neil Saunders of GlobalData revealed the gas station concept could work due to the warehouse's 'wildly popular' cheap gas prices. 'Costco is building a new stand-alone location in Orange County to help manage demand that can't be serviced at the station by its store,' Saunders previously told the Daily Mail. 'If successful, there are other locations where this could be implemented.'
