Zena Wozniak is haunted by the ghost of her romantic past.

But the Los Angeles single’s love phantom isn’t just some guy she met, dated and bedded for a few days before he abruptly faded to black.

Instead, her dating app apparition goaded her into a pseudo-relationship — one she hoped would lead to marriage and babies — only to leave her cash-strapped, stranded and abandoned in his apartment over 5,000 miles away on the other side of the world.

Wozniak detailed her dating woes in a compelling social media tell-all, capturing the attention of thousands of stunned readers worldwide.

“I was crying, gutted. I planned this six-week European trip, and he was certainly the inspiration for it, but it was such a waste of money,” Wozniak, 37, a professional personal assistant, exclusively told The Post of her harrowing heartbreak. 

Her sordid tale of desire and desertion, titled “I Flew To London To See A Man. He Abandoned Me In His Flat,” recently went viral online.

In the 10,000-word Substack essay, drafted this month, the brunette shares the unfiltered, ugly truth about the hefty emotional and financial investment she’d made in her imaginary dream man, whom she calls “Charlie.”

At first, “Charlie” is a car-karaoke singing, cigarette-smoking British sex god, whom she met on Tinder in 2022.

The doomed couple had their first face-to-face encounter in San Francisco — Charlie was visiting from London; Wozniak faked a “friend visit” just to meet him in the flesh.

She dipped into her savings and hopped a flight to England with Charlie’s blessing. The hopeful romantic expected to spend 10 glorious days with the man she’d earmarked as her future husband after their passionate dalliances in California, which included an enchanting rendezvous in Palm Springs.

Wozniak—motivated by her personal motto, “Make. Interesting. Choices.”—hoping her trip to London would transform their budding flame into a five-alarm fire. She prayed the spark would prompt Charlie to fall madly in love and join her on each stop of an idyllic European adventure she secretly planned.

“I booked all these honeymoon-style, non-refundable Airbnbs—one on a hillside in Florence, Italy, another on a beach in Greece. I booked flights. I bought train tickets,” she lamented to The Post. “This was the last sliver of hope I had left from being a little girl. I thought I was finally getting my big, magical romance.”

“But it just turned out awful.”

Unfortunately, Charlie’s digs did not serve as a palace of passion. Instead, it became the crash site where their romance went up in flames.

“‘I’m not well,’ he said sternly, as if he were correcting someone other than himself,” writes Wozniak, recalling Charlie’s final words before he unceremoniously skedaddled. “‘I’m not well at all, Zena.’”

His sudden claims of being overwhelmed, allegedly triggered by work stress and a chance run-in with an ex, came mere minutes after a blindsided Wozniak landed in London.

With nearly no money for a hotel and virtually no one to turn to for immediate help, she reluctantly stayed in Charlie’s muggy, TV-free apartment—a courtesy he offered after abruptly calling things off.

He made arrangements to stay elsewhere until she left London. But thanks to Charlie’s active Tinder location, Wozniak discovered he had escaped to the romantic getaway they had originally planned to visit together.

“I felt my body walk through the hallway and saw myself in the mirror standing in front of cheery blue tiles. The person looking back at me felt like a total stranger,” writes Wozniak. “I peeled her clothes off and wished it was my skin instead, and that I could melt into a puddle of flesh right there on his stupid bathroom floor.”

She spent three days at Charlie’s—sobbing, snooping, and stuffing her face with McDonald’s—until finally meeting up with a local college pal who took her in.

Unable to recoup most of the funds she’d laid out for her planned getaway, Wozniak visited Italy, Greece, and the other hotspots she booked before getting the boot.

She doesn’t consider her ill-fated romance a cautionary tale, telling The Post the expensive, excruciating experience gave her a renewed lease on life—one that isn’t centered around bagging Prince Charming.

“There were two years after the Charlie incident where I was just upset and grieving the loss of this idea that true love exists for me,” said Wozniak, who remains on dating apps like Hinge and Raya, but is no longer looking through rose-colored glasses.

Now, nearly four years later, Wozniak can appreciate the devastating experience for the lessons it taught her. The single writer is embracing solo life, exploring the world, and spending time with loved ones.

“It’s now hard imagining that I’ll get to spend the rest of my life with a man. I can’t conceive it as a possibility anymore,” she sighed.

Following the London fiasco, Wozniak ditched her old curve-clinging dating clothes, shaved her head, and began traveling the globe alone—granting herself permission to enjoy a fulfilling life on her own terms.

“I’m now operating from a much more freeing, healthy place,” she said. “There’s a little sadness. But it’s really good for my relationship with myself.”

As for Charlie, whom she never saw or spoke to again—aside from a rejected text asking if they could still be friends—Wozniak hasn’t been able to fully shake his ghost.

“As sick as it sounds, part of me hoped he’d reach out, apologize, and be like, ‘I made a huge mistake, we should be together,’” she confessed.

She still Googles his real name from time to time to see if he got a new job, moved, or married the ex who resurfaced.

While Wozniak remains wistful, most of her Substack readers—many of whom have been jilted by jerks like Charlie—are outraged.

“He was a f–ker alright. You handled it better than I would have,” one commenter wrote.

“I bet he was married, lives in Kent, and that ‘craaaazy work’ was kids,” wrote another. “And that flat in London was an Airbnb.”

“You came out of this incredibly s–ty experience like a champ,” said an impressed reader. “This guy should be ashamed of himself. Inconsiderate d—head.”

A small faction of critics scolded Wozniak for falling head over heels and spending an arm and a leg on a guy she’d only known for a few weeks.

“From this, I’ve learned to be brave, buy the ticket, make the first move,” she said. “Through my story, I hope other single young women realize how capable they are and how much magic they can bring to the world—with or without a man.”
