Visitors to The D-Day Story museum can now see a selection of original props on display from the upcoming movie Pressure, starring acclaimed actors Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott.

The film stars Andrew Scott as Group Captain James Stagg and Brendan Fraser as General Dwight D. Eisenhower. It tells the true story of the meetings between the Allied commanders that took place in Southwick House, five miles north of Portsmouth, to forecast the weather ahead of the Allied invasion of Normandy, often referred to as D-Day.

“At these meetings of the Allied commanders, they heard the weather forecast and realised that the forecast for June 5, the original date, was looking really bad and wasn’t suitable, so they made the decision to delay it by 24 hours,” said the museum’s curator Andrew Whitmarsh.

“It’s very much a local story, but it’s a story that had national and international effects, because if D-Day had gone wrong, the effect of that might still be felt today.

“Films like this are a great way of bringing the story of D-Day to a wider audience,” he said.

The props on display include Captain Stagg’s briefcase from the film, and a replica of a real handwritten note for General Eisenhower to read over the radio, if D-Day was not successful.

The film is now in UK cinemas and was released to good reviews. The props will be on display for visitors of the museum until the end of November.
