Michael B. Jordan has been one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood over the last few years. 

The 39-year-old’s hard work was also rewarded this year when he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his dual role as twin brothers, Elijah “Smoke” and Elias “Stack” Moore, in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners.

Though Jordan has more projects in the pipeline, he recently told Vogue in an interview that he’ll “probably” be taking the rest of 2027 off. 

Before taking that breather, however, Jordan has some professional commitments to fulfil. They include his new film, The Thomas Crown Affair, as well as a reboot of Miami Vice. Jordan is also producing Delphi, which is a Creed series spin-off.

Jordan is additionally scheduled to promote The Thomas Crown Affair during the spring season. But he said he’ll “probably take the rest of next year off” after that.

The Black Panther star said it will be a period of reflection for him. 

“That’s probably when I’m going to do more reflecting and processing of all of this,” said Jordan. “Because honestly, it’s been—I’ve been moving.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Jordan, who is an anime fan, suggested that he “might just quit it all and make anime the rest of my life.”

Jordan is the sixth Black male actor to win in the Best Actor category, joining Will Smith (King Richard, 2020), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland, 2006), Jamie Foxx (Ray, 2004), Denzel Washington (Training Day, 2001) and Sidney Poitier (Lilies of the Field), who was the first to win in 1963. 

Jordan honored the previous winners in his acceptance speech. 

“I stand here because of the people that came before me: Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith,” he said. 

Berry won Best Actress in 2002.
