"The president [of US Donald Trump] has said the Russia-Ukraine war has been by far the toughest of the international conflicts to solve," he told reporters. "This thing has been tough to solve, no doubt about it. But I’d rather work for a president who has energetically tried to solve the problem," Vance added.

There are reasons to expect progress after a contact between Trump and Vladimir Zelensky scheduled for September 22, he noted. "Well, look, I’m always optimistic that we’re going to make progress," Vance said.
