Ever since Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin end their on-and-off relationship in June 2025, the “Verity” star has been linked to two other musicians: Role Model, which reportedly ended in August 2026, and Machine Gun Kelly. The latter is drawing some skepticism from those in Johnson’s inner circle.

“Dakota loves rock stars, she can’t help herself, she says they are sexy,” a source told Daily Mail on September 19, adding, “She’s enamored with that whole rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle, the music, the chaos, the guys who come with it.” The “Fifty Shades of Grey” actor reportedly re-connected with MGK at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding in July, and now they are dating.

Unfortunately for Johnson, her friends believe that their relationship is not a long-term match. “I don’t think Colson is the perfect fit for Dakota, but who knows,” another insider told the outlet. “She did just say she wants to settle down and have kids, but I don’t think it will be with Colson.”

A third source dished, “I heard that it’s casual, what’s going on between them, and they’re just having fun, hanging out and getting to know each other. They might just be a summer fling that turned romantic, but given Dakota’s relationship history, they might not last much longer.”

Those who know MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, say that he “isn’t looking for anything serious.” The rocker previously dated Megan Fox, with whom he shares daughter Saga Blade. A source told Daily Mail, “If he wanted to be a husband, he would’ve married Megan Fox a while ago. … He enjoys being free spirited and is very dedicated to his music and career that it makes it difficult to have a serious commitment.”

One friend who does seem supportive of the match? Swift herself, who reportedly lent her New York City apartment to let them have a date. “They hit it off and wanted some privacy,” a source told Us Weekly on September 17. “So, Dakota contacted Taylor, and Taylor said she wasn’t home, so they could use her place.” How cool is that?

For now, Johnson and MGK seem to be in their honeymoon stage. An insider told People on September 16, “It’s a very new start, but they’re smitten with each other right now.”

Who knows? If Taylor Swift approves, these two might actually be perfect for each other!
