US fears wider Middle East escalation after Houthis attack Riyadh

The United States warned Saturday that fighting between Saudi Arabia and Iran-backed Houthi forces could “escalate rapidly” after a missile attack targeted Riyadh for the first time since the Yemen conflict resumed. The attack prompted US President Donald Trump to cut short a weekend at a secluded presidential complex in rural Maryland and return to the White House.
