Lebanon: UNIFIL withdrawal at the heart of Paris talks

Emmanuel Macron welcomes Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Jordan's King Abdullah II to Paris today for talks on Lebanon's security and international support for the Lebanese army. The meeting comes as France pushes to prevent a security vacuum ahead of UNIFIL's planned withdrawal at the end of 2026, with Israeli strikes continuing in southern Lebanon and concerns growing over who will secure the border.
