(LifeSiteNews) — Lindsay Clancy never asked her now-ex-husband for forgiveness after murdering their three children, Patrick Clancy revealed in a new interview about the crime and mistrial that have gripped the nation.

Patrick, who has since remarried, had his first sit-down interview over the weekend with CBS 60 Minutes correspondent Ross Douthat in an emotional review of the case and its fallout.

“Has she ever asked for your forgiveness?” Douthat asked.

“No. But I gave it to her,” Patrick responded, explaining that he did “believe that it was her mental illness that caused” the killings. He added that “when it comes to forgiveness, I also felt that if I didn’t get there, I would be eaten up inside forever.”

He added that he asked Lindsay if she remembered the deed. “She said it was like a dream,” he recalled. “And — she remembered it much in the way you would remember a dream after waking up.”

In the aftermath of the death of Patrick Clancy’s children, many found it inconceivable that he would forgive his wife, Lindsay Clancy.

Clancy evaded conviction September 4 for the 2023 murder of her three children when a mistrial was declared after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. That she did it was undisputed, but the defense argued she was not responsible due to “postpartum psychosis,” which allegedly brought her to a point at which she decided to end her children’s lives before attempting to kill herself. 

Most of the predominantly female jury was reportedly sympathetic enough to acquit, but one male holdout, Michael Desronvil, refused, preserving the possibility of a future trial convicting her. Mirroring the cultural flashpoint the case has become in the court of public opinion, several female jurors have condemned their colleague in interviews, with one giving the unintentionally revealing quote, “He had the hardest time getting off the fact that Lindsay viciously killed her children.”

Patrick has since remarried, and he and wife Rachel Danis are expecting their first child. He says he “can’t wait to tell them about their brothers and sister.”

Because Desronvil refused to vote with the rest of the jury, the principle of double jeopardy did not attach to the trial and Lindsay Clancy can be prosecuted again. But the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office has not yet confirmed if it plans to attempt a new trial. If convicted of first-degree murder, she would spend the rest of her life behind bars. But if her insanity defense prevails, she could be free as soon as a mental evaluation declares her no longer a threat to herself or others.

In the meantime, Clancy is confined to a state mental facility, with her next hearing slated for September 29.
