Far-left Los Angeles Mayoral candidate Nithya Raman is showing a huge lead over incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in recent polling. 

The poll, which was conducted by UC Berkeley and co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, was released Wednesday. 

It showed Raman holding an 11 percent lead over her opponent, though a great deal of voters remain undecided. Both candidates are registered as Democrats. 

Among the 2,150 likely voters surveyed online between September 15 to 20, 39 percent said they would vote for Raman, 28 percent said they would vote for Bass and 33 percent said they were still undecided. 

Election day is scheduled for November 3, just six weeks from now, and mail-in ballots will open in just two weeks. 

'It’s extraordinarily unusual to see this many undecided voters at this point in the race,' poll director Mark DiCamillo told the Los Angeles Times.

Raman's strong position was revealed just days after Los Angeles's police union accused the candidate of pledging to push socialist policies that would defund the police, close jails and escalate the city's drug problem. 

Tom Saggau, spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), recently told the Daily Mail that voters 'should not be fooled by' the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Saggau accused Raman of pledging to co-govern the city with DSA's LA branch and push its agenda from City Hall, should she be elected.

'Nithya Raman agreed to co-govern with the DSA, and the actual DSA policy demands listed on their website are quite scary,' Saggau said.

DSA-LA has a laundry list of demands posted on their website, including 'Decommission facilities like Men's Central Jail' and 'Reject efforts to expand domestic anti-terrorism laws that target protestors.'

Saggau said Los Angeles voters should not be fooled by DSA activists, who he claims disguise their true intentions and implement additional policies once in power.

'Seizing private homes, seizing small businesses, defunding and abolishing the police, and allowing dangerous homeless encampments next to schools, daycares and parks,' are just some of the proposals the spokesman referenced.

Worries over Raman's policies paired with Bass's widespread unpopularity in the wake of the devastating 2025 wildfires have likely fueled the remarkably high percentage of undecided voters in the polls. 

According to Wednesday's UC Berkeley poll, the primary election elimination of candidate Spencer Pratt, who ran to the right of Raman and Bass, is linked to the large number of people who remain undecided in the runoff. 

Pratt received 26 percent of the vote in the June 2 primary, and 63 percent of those who voted for him said they still have not chosen between Raman and Bass, the survey found. 

Pratt ran heavily on the incumbent administration's unpopular response to the Palisades fire, which killed 12 people and destroyed more than 4,000 homes. 

According to the poll, 56 percent of likely voters called Bass's response to the fire 'poor' or 'very poor.'

The survey also found that just 23 percent of likely voters viewed Bass favorably, while 40 percent viewed Raman favorably. 

The candidate led the incumbent among all age groups by varying percentages, though she dominated among those aged 18 to 29, with 66 percent of likely voters in that group favoring Raman. 

Just four percent of voters in that age range said they would vote for Bass. 

In a statement to KTLA, a spokesperson for the incumbent said: 'Our campaign is continuing to do our job: contrasting Mayor Bass' record of delivering results on housing, public safety and neighborhood investment with Nithya Raman's out-of-step views on allowing encampments near schools and failing to show up for her constituents.' 

The Daily Mail has reached out to Bass's office for further comment regarding the poll's findings.   

A spokesperson for Raman's campaign recently told the Daily Mail: 'Nithya has reduced homeless encampments, RVs and tents by 70% in her district. And she voted multiple times to maintain and increase police staffing.'

'However, Nithya voted against Mayor Bass' $1 billion raise for the police union because the city couldn't afford it. Now, the police union is bankrolling Mayor Bass' campaign with millions of dollars, while the City declared a fiscal emergency, cut essential services, and even eliminated the LAPD's copper wire theft task force.'

'As Mayor, Nithya will be fiscally responsible with our tax dollars to support public safety and make LA a city that works.'
