UNITED NATIONS (VINnews) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Thursday with the presidents of Paraguay, Panama and Bolivia after addressing the U.N. General Assembly, urging the Latin American leaders to deepen ties with Israel through the Isaac Accords.

The Prime Minister’s Office said Netanyahu sat down with Paraguayan President Santiago Peña, Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino and Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz following his speech to the 81st General Assembly.​

The session came after a separate meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei on the sidelines of the gathering. Milei has been the leading regional advocate for the Isaac Accords, a framework launched with Netanyahu in Jerusalem in April to expand political, economic, security and technological cooperation between Israel and Latin American countries.​

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said Netanyahu welcomed what he described as warm relations with many governments in the region. He thanked the three presidents for supporting Israel’s security and for standing with Jerusalem in international forums.

Netanyahu called on them to join the Isaac Accords and to take part in a U.S. drive encouraging countries to leave the International Criminal Court. Washington has intensified that campaign this year, arguing the Hague-based tribunal oversteps its authority. The court issued arrest warrants in 2024 for Netanyahu and other Israeli officials over the war in Gaza. Israel and the United States are not parties to the court’s founding treaty.​

The Israeli leader said Latin American nations are important partners in confronting Iranian-backed terror networks that have operated in the region and still pose a threat to countries there, according to the official account of the meeting.

The Isaac Accords take their name from the 2020 Abraham Accords and are meant to build a lasting network of cooperation that organizers say can outlast changes in government. Legislators from more than a dozen Latin American countries endorsed expanding the initiative at a conference in Buenos Aires earlier this year. Several governments in the region have already moved closer to Israel, including steps to designate Iranian-backed groups as terrorist organizations and, in some cases, to strengthen diplomatic representation in Jerusalem.​

Netanyahu’s New York stop was brief. He spoke at the General Assembly on Thursday as numerous delegations walked out, then held a round of meetings before returning to Israel ahead of Sukkot. His office had also listed talks with other foreign leaders during the short visit.​
