The Scenic City Chorale is seeking new members for their season beginning Sept. 15.

Officials said, "Do you like to sing in the shower, in a choir, in the car? Can you read music? Do you play an instrument and enjoy singing, too? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, the Scenic City Chorale needs you. No auditions; no paperwork.

"Those interested can email sceniccitychorale123@outlook.com and someone will happily call you back.

The group of 50 men and women, all volunteers, rehearse weekly from September to May, beginning this year on Sept.

"Yes, quite a few of us have gray hair and are retired," officials said. "But some members work remotely, so they can make it to Tuesday morning rehearsals."

Rehearsals are at Brainerd United Methodist Church on Brainerd Road from 10 a.m.-noon on Tuesday mornings.

"We sing all kinds of music," officials said. "In the fall, we learn holiday songs for our concert in December. In the Spring, our program includes sacred, traditional, popular, classical, Broadway shows, spirituals and favorites from the American Songbook.

"Scenic City Chorale was started 62 years ago. In 2017, we became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We have minimal dues and are underwritten by tax-deductible donations from audience members and others. Our members come from all around the greater Chattanooga and north Georgia areas. Some of us have sung professionally; others haven’t sung in a group since high school. The common denominator: we love choral singing. We leave rehearsals exuding endorphins and with smiles on our faces."

This year, the chorale welcomes new music director Jeff Parker. Mr. Parker is new to the Scenic City Chorale, but he has been in Chattanooga since 2008 as minister of music and worship at First Baptist Church. In addition to more than 37 years of full-time experience in church music ministry, his additional professional highlights include being named the founding director of the Greenville Choral Society Youth Chorale in Greenville, NC, and serving as the music in worship chair for the Southern Region of the American Choral Directors Association. Mr. Parker says he is enthusiastically looking forward to conducting the group.

"Come try us out on Sept. 15 at Brainerd United Methodist Church as Scenic City Chorale begins its 62nd year," officials said.
