Maruti Suzuki India announced on Thursday the commissioning of a 300 kW Green Hydrogen (GH₂) electrolyzer plant as a pilot project at its Manesar facility.

The project would maximise the utilisation of the solar energy generated at the company’s Manesar facility. The Green Hydrogen produced at the plant would be blended with natural gas to be used as process fuel in the manufacturing process, the automaker said in a regulatory filing.

Maruti Suzuki is adopting a diverse array of green solutions to advance its efforts to reduce carbon emissions across its manufacturing operations, which includes solar power plants, renewable energy procurement from government sources, and power purchase agreements with third-party providers for solar and wind-based energy.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited said that the pilot project would compound on the firm’s efforts to expand solar, biogas and installation of battery energy storage systems and is aligned with the Government of India’s Green Hydrogen Mission.

“Just like we have adopted a multi-pathway approach for products, we have also embarked on a journey of multiple renewable energy solutions for manufacturing operations,” he added.

Maruti Suzuki is in the advanced stage of setting up a 10 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) biogas plant at its Kharkhoda facility, which will be commissioned within FY 2026-27. The company had additionally commissioned a 1 MWh Battery Energy Storage System at its Kharkhoda facility.

The automaker said it had begun integrating compressed biogas (CBG) as process fuel and had recently approved 4 CBG projects and earmarked a budget of Rs 5,610 million towards the same.

Meanwhile, the firm’s parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) has partnered with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and dairy industry unions to set up 10 biogas plants across India, three of which are already operational in Gujarat.

Following the announcement, shares of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. fell by 0.57% to Rs 12,136 as of 12:28 PM on BSE.
