Hundreds of protesters, including prominent lefty actors and local politicians, swarmed the United Nations Thursday to call for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s arrest — and many found themselves in cuffs instead.

An estimated 104 demonstrators were busted as NYPD cops worked to clear First Avenue ahead of Netanyahu’s speech to the UN General Assembly, law enforcement sources and organizers said.

Among those taken into custody was Democratic Socialists of America member and Mayor Zohran Mamdani-backed House hopeful Darializa Avila-Chevalier, who smiled and chanted, “Free Palestine” as she was loaded onto an NYPD bus.

“As the Democratic Nominee for New York’s 13th Congressional District, I refuse to allow a war criminal to roam the streets of our city unchallenged,” Avila-Chevalier’s campaign said in a statement later.

Several other Mamdani allies were also busted, including City Council members Alexa Avilés, Jennifer Gutiérrez and Chi Ossé, all Brooklyn progressives. 

New York state Assemblywoman Emily Gallagher, a democratic socialist, was arrested as well.

Oscar winner Susan Sarandon and fellow anti-Israel actors Cynthia Nixon, Elliot Page, and Hannah Einbinder, of HBO’s “Hacks,” were also among those spotted at the protest ahead of Netanyahu’s speech.

Both Sarandon and Einbinder were arrested, along with activist whistleblower Chelsea Manning. 

Mamdani, who has condemned Netanyahu, was not in attendance. The mayor instead opted to post a wordless video on X of him meeting with Palestinian families at Grace Mansion minutes before Netanyahu’s speech. 

The protest began at around noon and was organized by Jewish Voices For Peace and the DSA to block traffic near the UN to call out Netanyahu’s war in Gaza and the ongoing conflict in Iran.

The Israeli prime minister has been accused of conducting crimes against humanity in Gaza following Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack, with the International Criminal Court issuing a warrant for his arrest.

The US, however, does not recognize the ICC’s authority, with Netanyahu joining world leaders to speak before the UN General Assembly.

Among those in the crowd who were chanting, “Stop arming Israel!” and “Let Iran live” were lefty City Council members Tiffany Caban, Sandy Nurse, Shahana Hanif and Ossé.

Also in attendance was embattled NYC-DSA boss Gustavo Gordillo.

The demonstration saw heated exchanges between the protesters and Netanyahu supporters, with police separating the two groups. 

The arrests began less than an hour into the protests, with the demonstrators yelling, “Netanyahu, you can’t hide! We charge you with genocide!” as officers began placing zip-ties around protesters.  

Others waved around an effigy of Netanyahu in a jail garb with a rope tied around his neck with the words “Satan” scribbled on his chest.

Despite the scene, Netanyahu arrived at the UN on schedule and without incident, officials said.

Netanyahu used part of his speech to slam Mamdani, with supporters like Beth Phillips, 63, of the Upper East Side, echoing the prime minister’s criticisms.  

“It’s been horrible for Jewish people,” she said of Mamdani’s administration. “His people that he surrounds himself with praised 9/11. Jews are in danger. We are [at] risk.”

A few hours later, a much larger rally organized by the Palestine Youth Movement began marching from Bryant Park toward the UN headquarters. 

The rally had more than 2,000 demonstrators in attendance, according to police, with the numbers growing as they headed west. 

The march caused chaos outside Grand Central Station, with police diverting frustrated commuters away from the entrance on 42nd Street.
