UPDATE: The family reported on Sept. 25 that Russell Kane has been found in Escondido. They expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped with the search.

Russell Kauila Kane, 69, was reported missing by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Sept. 21.

Kane was last seen on surveillance video on the afternoon of Sept. 22 outside 99 Ranch Market, 19100 Harborgate Way in Torrance.

He had previously been seen on Sept. 20 at the Figueroa Business Center, 17230 Figueroa St. in Gardena.

He is described as 5’2” and 140 pounds with white hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a dark gray or black hoodie and blue jeans.

His family says that Kane has not communicated with relatives and they are concerned for his well-being.

Describing him as having special needs, the family said, “May need assistance. If you see him, please approach with kindness.”

According to Rick Kane, the missing man’s brother, Russell can’t read or write but knows his name.

In addition to social media, the family has been posting flyers in the area, including places where homeless people gather.
