A saleswoman at a ration shop at Namakkal was transferred on Thursday after flat grain beetles were found in rice supplied to beneficiaries.

After District Collector L. Madhubalan received complaints from the public that flat grain beetles were found in ration rice supplied to the public from a ration shop in Namakkal, the District Supply Officer and officials visited the ration shop and checked the rice provided to the public.

The officials found flat grain beetles in the rice. Subsequently, the shop was instructed to replace the rice bags with 14 new ones from the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation warehouse.

Following the incident, ration shop saleswoman M. Tamilarasi was transferred by the Joint Director (cooperatives) Arularasu.
