WASHINGTON, September 28. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump says Iran is ready to state that it is not going to develop nuclear weapons.

"They’ll never have a nuclear weapon, and they understand that. And they're willing to say that," he told reporters.

Tehran has repeatedly stressed that it is not seeking to develop nuclear arms. Moreover, Western intelligence agencies have found no evidence of Iran developing nuclear weapons. The New York Times also confirmed this at the end of January. Additionally, a fatwa (religious edict) issued by the former supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been in effect in Iran since 2003, prohibiting the production of nuclear weapons.

Trump said in August that Iran’s refusal from possessing nuclear weapons would be officially committed to paper. Last week, he said that a deal with Iran would be concluded after the midterm elections to the US Congress in November. Shortly after that, he said that the deal could be reached even before the election.
