Though the summer sun is still shining and the heat hasn't gone away quite yet, it's never too early to get ahead on Christmas presents.

And this year a £300 doll's house and a KPop Demon Hunters toy are predicted to be among the bestselling gifts, according to John Lewis.

The British retailer has said physical toys which can bring families together will be favoured over those that encourage more screen time for children.

In a top 10 list that predicts what is likely to dominate wish lists, John Lewis also highlighted LEGO toys, scooters and Gruffalo-themed toys.

The predictions – made more than four months ahead of Christmas Day – include a wooden breakfast-in-bed set that taps into the trend of 'slow living', a set of magic tricks for at-home entertainment and a £299.95 Le Toy Van Paddington doll's house.

John Lewis said the group of toys is likely to spark interest in intergenerational role play and family-orientated games this festive season.

Other predicted bestsellers include collectibles linked to popular culture, such as the Rumi singing doll from Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters as well as Momiji's Sugar Plum Wood message doll.

It comes as retail chains like HMV and The Works said they have seen a resurgence in demand for 'physical ownership' of toys, games and collectibles among children alongside families looking for more screen-free activities.

Meanwhile, John Lewis said the Micro Scooters Gruffalo Scooter was predicted to be a bestselling item this Christmas, which it is selling for £116.95, amid soaring demand for Gruffalo-themed toys.

Alan Wright, toy expert and buyer at John Lewis, said: 'As a nation, we're witnessing a "great play revival", with "playtime" toys – think those that encourage collaboration, creativity and outdoor adventure – making up nearly half of all sales in the John Lewis toy department.

'Families are actively choosing connection over collection and swapping screen time for shared experiences that create lasting memories.'

Elsewhere, Marvin's Magic Treasured Tricks Wooden Set (£39.99) also appeared on the retailer's list. 

Marvin’s Magic is bringing back the joyful charm of the classic living room show, with the toy allowing families to embrace the art of performance and build confidence through imaginative role play.

Meanwhile, LEGO (whose sales are up 8 per cent this year) have unveiled their Icons Winter Village Collection Holiday Express Train, which is exclusive to John Lewis.

This block-building pack is designed for families to step away from screens and build together, one brick at a time.
