An exclusive new survey from Daily Mail/JL Partners reveals that Russia is widely viewed as America's biggest historical enemy, with more than a third of voters naming Moscow as the nation's primary adversary over the past 250 years.
According to new data from the poll, 36 percent of respondents selected Russia when asked which country has been America's biggest enemy. China followed as the second most common choice at 13 percent, closely followed by Iran at 12 percent.
Further down the list, Iraq was selected by seven percent of respondents, North Korea by six percent, and the United Kingdom by four percent. Afghanistan and Germany were each chosen by three percent, while two percent selected an unspecified 'other' country.
While historical animosities linger, the 'special relationship' across the Atlantic remains firmly intact.
The polling further reveals that the United Kingdom is most commonly selected as America's most important ally over the past 250 years, capturing 33 percent of the vote.
Canada followed in second place at 17 percent, with Israel at 14 percent and France at eight percent. Japan and Mexico were each selected by three percent of those surveyed. Meanwhile, Ukraine and 'other' options each garnered two percent.
However, the survey also highlights deep public anxiety regarding the long-term future of the United States.
When asked to identify the most likely reason that America will not be here in another 250 years, voters pointed heavily toward fiscal instability.

Economic collapse topped the list of existential fears among voters, with 22 percent of respondents calling it the most probable cause of the nation's demise. Nuclear war followed at 16 percent, while 10 percent of voters feared a future civil war.
A modern threat, a takeover by artificial intelligence, was waves ahead of other sci-fi worries, cited by 9 percent of respondents.
Other potential triggers for the end of the nation included a pandemic, being absorbed into a one-world government, a natural disaster, a takeover by China and depopulation due to declining birth rates, which were each selected by four percent of those polled.
Additionally, three percent of respondents pointed to annexation by Canada or Mexico, three percent feared a takeover by radical Islam and another three percent chose a takeover by Russia.
Existential threats such as an alien invasion and famine were each cited by one percent of voters. Seven percent selected 'other' reasons.
The poll surveyed 1,059 registered voters and carries a margin of error of three percent.
