Genetic study links IBS to lipid metabolism and triglyceride regulation

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common condition that affects more than 10% of the general population, causing recurrent abdominal pain, bloating, constipation and diarrhea. IBS is considered a disorder of gut-brain interaction, and previous research, including genetic research, has established links to nerve signaling, the nervous system and other conditions including anxiety and mood disorders. The exact biological mechanisms, however, have remained frustratingly difficult to pin down, leaving many patients without effective, targeted treatments.
