Jack Harrison has returned to the USA where his hope is to bring another major title to the Boston area.

The attacking midfielder spent two seasons on loan with the Blues before returning to Leeds United upon their promotion to the Premier League last year.

After a stint in Italy with Fiorentina he will now cross the Atlantic, where chiefs at the New England Revolution say they are confident he will have an “immediate impact”.

Harrison endured a turbulent time across two years on Merseyside, recording five goals and three assists in 73 appearances. Most of those came with Everton battling crises on and off the pitch under Sean Dyche, a highlight being his clever lob to score against Bournemouth at Goodison Park.

His impact diminished in his second season and he struggled for chances once David Moyes returned to the dugout. The 29-year-old was initially booed during pre-season at Leeds even with manager Daniel Farke eager to give him a chance. He scored once and recorded three assists while on loan in Serie A during the second half of last season.

A return to the US - where he began his career with New York City FC - appeared likely and the Revolution have emerged as his landing spot.

General manager Chris Tierney said: “Since breaking through in MLS, Jack has flourished on the game’s biggest stages in the English Premier League and Serie A, where he was an integral part of his Leeds, Everton, and Fiorentina squads. With Jack joining the Revolution, we are confident his creativity and game intelligence will help him make an immediate impact.”

The Revolution will be hoping to add a national championship to Boston’s incredible sporting success, with the city’s American Football, baseball and basketball teams having celebrated considerable triumphs across the past decade.

Harrison said: “As I considered my options, the decision to return to MLS and join the Revolution was the one that was most aligned with me. It ticked a lot of boxes that I was looking for.

“I’m absolutely happy to come back to MLS and be back in Massachusetts to a city that is full of champions in all other sports, and I’m hoping we can bring a title here to the city of champions.”
