After launching earlier in 2026 with deFORM, ebbandflow have returned with their first sampled acoustic instrument, Hallowed Bells. The latest offering from the company captures a celesta, or celeste, played in a lush-sounding scoring hall, and includes a selection of sound-design tools that have been created with modern productions in mind.

Hallowed Bells centres around a meticulously recorded celeste that’s been captured with three distinct stereo mic arrays. The core samples hosted in ebbandflow’s latest engine, and the plug-in is divided into five main sections that make it possible to craft everything from a pristine, natural-sounding sampled instrument to entirely unrecognisable patches.

A Layers section houses a four-part sample-based synth, allowing users to augment the samples with a variety of additional tones and textures, or replace the core sound entirely. An Effects section then brings together a collection of built-in processors including Grains, a granular re-synthesis effect; Delay, a tape-modelled stereo delay processor; and Reverb, which delivers everything from small studio spaces to large hall sounds. The Effects section also includes a multi-shape LFO.

Structure then offers access to a range of behind-the-scenes parameters, offering the ability to tweak the likes of sympathetic resonances and room tone, as well as the option of a True Pan mode that honours the original instrument’s unusual stereo field. There are also options for adjusting the ‘feel’ of the instrument, including adjusting the amount of pre-roll sound heard before the instrument’s hammer strikes, altering the overall attack of the instrument and tailoring velocity curves to ensure MIDI controllers offer the best playing experience.

In the Signals section you’ll find a mixer that offers control over the three stereo signals, with external routing options provided for those wishing to send individual signals to their DAW or outboard gear. There’s an Eco Mode that enables just a single, clean stereo signal, and a Signal Split option that separates the tonal and harmonic content of each stem from the percussive and inharmonic, and provides full control over their balance. Finally, a Macros section includes four assignable bays that each boast their own independent mod matrix, and can be controlled from an X-Y pad.

Compatibility

Hallowed Bells is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or later, and Macs running macOS 12 and above. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.

Pricing & Availability

Hallowed Bells is available now, and is currently (5 August 2026) being offered at an introductory price of $39£29 / €39 (usually $59£49 / €59). Prices include VAT.
