RABAT, August 7. /TASS/. Paramilitary groups incorporated into the Islamic Resistance in Iraq alliance have announced that they are postponing an attack on one of the republic's neighbor countries.

As follows from their statement addressed to "the United States and its regional allies," the alliance said that "based on a call by Hadi al-Amiri, leader of the Shiite organization Badr and in response to the respectful stance taken by certain Iraqi politicians, a decision was made to postpone the retaliatory measures scheduled for today."

Earlier, al-Amiri called on resistance groups to "postpone retaliating militarily to Saudi Arabia’s recent attack against positions of the Shiite people’s militias (Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi)" that killed more than 20 militia members.

The Al Hadath television channel reported on Thursday that Shiite groups operating in Iraq were planning to stage drone attacks against neighboring countries in the next couple of days. According to it, the warning was voiced during a special meeting held by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi. Shortly before the meeting, the prime minister, who is also the army’s commander-in-chief, ordered to put the Iraqi army and security forces on high alert at all camps and bases across the country.

The television channel also reported that paramilitary groups in Iraq "began redeploying their forces out of fear of a new wave of escalation." Sources in the Iraqi defense forces told it that "the country’s law enforcement structures are following paramilitary groups’ movements to prevent any potential provocations and attacks [on neighboring countries] from the Iraqi territory.".
